Workshop space terms in short
A digest of the facilitator terms (effective 29 January 2026) for workshops, classes and meetings run in Common Good Spaces with our permission. The full Terms and Conditions page is what applies. Operator: Common Good Castlemaine PTY LTD. Questions: [email protected].
Who and what
- Allowed with our permission: workshops, training, classes, meetings, presentations, office-based work, creative projects.
- Not allowed: recreational activities, parties or social gatherings, illegal activity. Under 18s only with our written agreement and responsible adult supervision.
- Attendees should be known to the facilitator or registered in advance. The facilitator supervises them throughout.
- The booking covers the areas confirmed, not the whole premises. A retailer may operate at the front. Brief attendees not to touch retail displays.
- Storage room at the back: out of bounds. CCTV at the entrance and retail area, for security and safety only.
- The guide and House Rules form part of the terms. The terms win on any conflict.
Arranging, hours and payment
- Use is by arrangement. Permission is only granted when we confirm in writing (usually email). We can decline.
- Standard access hours: 8am to 5pm, or as agreed (evenings 6pm to 10pm can be booked).
- Fees and payment terms are confirmed for each booking. Payment may be needed in advance. The terms say GST is excluded unless stated otherwise.
Cancellations
- If you need to cancel: give us as much notice as possible. Terms are confirmed as part of your booking.
- If we cancel (maintenance, emergency, safety): as much notice as we can, and a refund of fees paid or another date. We're not liable for other costs.
- If we withdraw permission because of a breach, there's no refund.
Insurance
- Public liability insurance of at least $20 million per occurrence, unless we agree otherwise in writing. We may ask for a certificate of currency. Cover must last the whole booking, including set-up and pack-down.
- Needed if any of these apply: open to the public or promoted, attendees aren't all staff of one organisation, any fees, tickets, donations or sales, a workshop or class for outside participants, higher-risk activity (physical activity, tools, heat, chemicals, installations, bringing in equipment), or under 18s attending.
- May not be needed only if all of these apply: a private internal meeting of one organisation, not promoted, no walk-ins, no money changing hands, nothing higher risk.
- Third parties you bring in (guest facilitators, contractors, caterers) need their own insurance.
- Professional services (counselling, coaching, therapy-style support): we may require professional indemnity insurance.
- Unsure? Ask us before confirming.
Safety and care
- Before people arrive: check the set-up is safe, keep the exit clear, remove trip hazards, brief attendees on emergency procedures.
- Not without written agreement: machinery or power tools, hot equipment (heat guns, soldering irons, hot plates), open flames or candles, aerosols and spray paint, chemicals or solvents, anything that could damage walls, floors or fixtures. Alcohol only with prior agreement.
- Higher-risk activities need a safety plan, provided to us if asked. We can refuse or cancel unsuitable or unsafe bookings.
- Power: provided outlets only, don't overload, surge-protected leads only, no heavy equipment without agreement.
- No nails, screws or adhesives on walls. Don't move fixtures. Clean up, take rubbish or use the bins, reset tables and chairs.
- Damage caused by you or your attendees is yours to report and make good. Normal wear and pre-existing damage aren't.
Security when you have access
- Never leave the venue open and unattended, or strangers alone in the retail area. Meet public arrivals at the door.
- Lock up or make sure the door is latched when you leave. Codes are for your team only. Report lost keys or leaked codes.
- You may be liable for theft if reasonable precautions weren't taken.
Liability
- Australian Consumer Law rights that can't be excluded still apply.
- We're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss, damage or theft of your or your attendees' property.
- We're not liable for injury except where caused by our negligence.
- Our total liability is capped at what you paid for the session in question.
- You indemnify us for claims arising from your breach, acts, attendees, damage or activity, except where we were negligent.
Other
- Follow all laws: WHS, food safety if serving food, liquor licensing, any permits.
- Wifi is shared and not guaranteed.
- We may withdraw permission and ask you to leave for breaches or unsafe, disruptive or unlawful behaviour.
- We may update the terms. The latest version is in the guide. Privacy: see our privacy policy.
