The Common Good idea
Living in Castlemaine we've always been drawn to the everyday places where you bump into people, have a quick chat, or end up staying longer than you planned. Those small moments add up. They're how a town feels like home.
That's also where the name comes from. Common Good is a nod to the idea of the commons — a shared place where you cross paths with others. Ours just happens to have benches and steam. Common is the regular habit. Good is the feeling you leave with. And if we get it right, it adds to the common good of Castlemaine.
It's two things, side by side: a sauna and bathhouse, and flexible multi-use spaces next door. Different activities, same purpose. One is for heat, water, and the shared reset that comes from doing something good for your body around other people. The other is for getting work done, making things, showing things, meeting up, learning, and running the kinds of small gatherings that keep Castlemaine lively.
Together, they're a kind of local commons, a place that can hold more than one rhythm at once. You might pop into the sauna after work, then drift next door for a workshop. Or grab a desk for the day while a pop-up takes shape at the front window. It's built to be used in the ordinary flow of life, not saved for special occasions.
We're making Common Good to feel grounded and familiar, like it already belongs here. A place where wellbeing and culture sit side by side, and being together is just part of the deal.
