House Rules

Guidelines to help keep the space safe and in good condition for everyone.

Permitted use

The space is available for:

  • Workshops and training sessions
  • Classes
  • Meetings and presentations
  • Creative projects and exhibitions
  • Community gatherings

Not for recreational use

The space is not available for recreational activities, parties, or social gatherings.

Shared space and retail

Our spaces are designed for mixed use. The front of the premises may have a retailer operating or displaying their wares.

  • Respect the retail space — Do not touch displays or merchandise unless the retailer is open and you are browsing as a customer
  • Not exclusive use — Your booking is for the specific areas confirmed at the time of booking, not the entire premises
  • Brief your attendees — Let your attendees know about the shared space when they arrive

Shared use

Please ensure your attendees understand the retail area is separate and should be respected.

Access and security

If you have been provided keyed or coded access, you are responsible for the security of the venue while you are present.

  • Do not prop the door open — Keep the entrance closed when not actively receiving attendees
  • Escort public attendees — If your session is open to the public, meet arrivals at the entrance and escort them to your workshop area
  • Do not leave the entrance unattended — If the door is open and you are expecting public attendees, ensure someone is always at the entrance to receive them
  • Lock up on exit — If you have keys, lock the door when you leave; if you have a door code, ensure the door is closed securely

Retail security

The venue includes a retail area with stock. Leaving the venue open and unattended creates a theft risk. You are responsible for taking reasonable steps to prevent theft while you control access. See Terms for details.

Restricted areas

Storage room

The storage room at the back of the premises is out of bounds.

  • No access is granted to the storage room
  • If you need something from storage, ask us

Storage room hazards

The storage room contains items that pose safety risks, including:

  • Power tools — drills, saws, and other equipment
  • Paints and chemicals — including solvents and adhesives
  • Ladders and stepladders — fall hazards
  • Heavy items — stored at height or in unstable configurations

Only authorised personnel may access this area.

Ceiling space

The ceiling space is out of bounds and is a high-risk area.

  • Do not attempt to access the ceiling or roof space
  • Do not remove or interfere with ceiling panels
  • Report any issues with lighting or ceiling fixtures to us

Electrical safety

To keep the space safe:

  • Only use approved power outlets — Do not overload sockets
  • Surge protection required — Any extension leads or power boards you bring must be surge/overload protected
  • Remove tripping hazards — Cables should not span areas where people walk
  • No heavy power equipment — No machinery, power tools, or high-load appliances without prior agreement

Power safety

If you are unsure whether your equipment is safe to use in the space, ask us before your booking.

Care of the space

Please treat the space with care:

  • No damage to walls — Do not use nails, screws, tape that damages paint, or adhesives on walls
  • No aerosols — Spray paints, adhesives, or other aerosols are not permitted
  • Clean up spills — Report and clean any spills immediately
  • Report damage — If something breaks or is damaged, report it promptly

Protecting surfaces

You are responsible for protecting all surfaces from damage and marking, including floors, carpets, table tops, and chairs.

If your workshop involves any activity that could mark or damage surfaces, plan ahead:

  • Cutting or sharp objects — Use cutting mats or thick cardboard; never cut directly on tables
  • Paint, dye, ink, or wet media — Use drop cloths or plastic sheeting on tables and floors; cover chair seats if participants will be handling materials
  • Glue or adhesives — Work on protected surfaces; have clean-up materials ready
  • Heavy or rough items — Use padding or cloths under items that could scratch surfaces

Plan to protect

A few minutes of preparation avoids awkward conversations later. If something gets damaged, you are responsible for repair or replacement costs — see Terms.

You are responsible for any damage caused during your session. See Terms for details.

Prohibited items and activities

The following are not permitted without prior written agreement:

  • Machinery or power tools
  • Hot equipment (e.g., heat guns, soldering irons, hot plates)
  • Open flames or candles
  • Aerosols or spray applications
  • Chemicals or solvents
  • Amplified music or loud performances
  • Activities that could damage the space

If your workshop requires any of these, discuss with us in advance. We may be able to accommodate with appropriate safety measures.

Cleanliness

Leave the space as you found it (or better):

  • Wash any dishes or cups you use
  • Wipe down surfaces if needed
  • Take your rubbish with you or use the bins provided
  • Return tables and chairs to a reasonable configuration

Noise

Be considerate of neighbours and other users of the building:

  • Wind down noise before the end of your booking

Valuables

  • There is no locked storage
  • You are responsible for your belongings and those of your participants
  • Do not leave valuables unattended
